OpenMRIAt St. Thomas Radiology Associates, we have a state-of-the-art MRI Scanner. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive medical procedure that helps physicians visualize the inside of the body.  Powerful magnetic fields and radiofrequency waves provide remarkably clear and detailed pictures of internal organs, soft tissues, bone and virtually all other internal body structures.  MR imaging has proven to be valuable in diagnosing a range of conditions including:

  • Diseases of the neurological and musculoskeletal systems
  • Cancer throughout the body, including the breast
  • Heart and vascular disease
  • Diseases of the abdominal organs including the liver, gallbladder and pancreas
  • Abnormalities within the reproductive system

During the MRI procedure, which can take between 15 and 45 minutes, the patient is positioned on a moveable examination table that slides into the center of a circular magnet.  The patient will be asked to remain completely still while the images are being recorded.  For some types of MRI exams, a contrast material is administered intravenously and flows into the patient’s body.  Once inside the body, the contrast material helps to sharpen the contrast within the images produced.

St. Thomas Radiology Associates offers one of the most advanced MRI systems available today.  MRI imaging is safe, painless and produces highly accurate images that greatly assist physicians in diagnosing a range of disorders.

MRIs are now also available at our St. Croix location.
